ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

THE ANNOINTING AT BETHANY

This photo shows the anointing of Bethany according to Matthew. We know that it is Matthew because Jesus is being anointed on the head. This photo says that God is giving and kind because he is anointing Jesus through the woman. This shows that Jesus the man is accepting and grateful because he is thankful that the woman is helping and preparing him. This tells us that humanity has not realized that the poor will always be there to help, but we need to praise God and Jesus while we have them.

THE LORDS SUPPER

This very famous painting of the last supper shows Jesus having his last meal with his disciples. This painting says that God's plan to send Jesus and save humanity has worked because most of his disciples are faithful and will spread his message. It also says that Jesus has fulfilled his destiny with his followers. It also shows a very forgiving Jesus because he knows that one of his disciples will betray him, but he celebrates anyways. This shows us that humanity believes that you can still be faithful even with adversity.

THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN(GETHSEMANE)

This beautiful painting shows Jesus in Gethsemane praying and three followers letting him down by falling asleep. This painting shows that God is all completely powerful because no human father could watch his son go through that much agony and even with the power to change to the course of events, God doesn't. It tells us that Jesus is forever grateful and loving because even when he knows that his father is letting him die, he still prays, accepts, and loves him because Jesus knows what is best for humanity. Because the sons of Zebedee and Peter fell asleep while Jesus was praying and wanted them to be attentive, it shows us that humanity is selfish and ungrateful for what others do.

THE BETRAYAL AND ARREST OF JESUS

This is a painting of Jesus' arrest and him telling his disciple to put away his sword. The painting says that God is thorough and works for the greater good of the world. He is allowing his son to be arrested because it is best for everyone else, even though it would be easier to let his only son live. It tells us that Jesus is a very calm, and again a forgiving person because he is telling his disciple to let him be arrested and not try to save him, for he knows that it is not the soldiers fault. It tells us that humanity is very irrational because we lash out, like Jesus follower, when we should not and it does not help.

JESUS BEFORE THE SANHEDRIN

This painting shows Jesus before the Sanhedrin. It tells us that God could be seen as uncaring or harsh. This is because God lets his only son go through this long, humiliating process when there is always the question as to weather it could be done in a more peaceful way. The painting shows that Jesus is accepting of his fate. He peacefully goes before the Sanhedrin and know what he has to do. It shows that humanity can be very unfaithful and harsh because some people are shown yelling and screaming about how Jesus is bad when he is trying to peacefully save them.

PETER'S DENIAL OF JESUS

This is a painting that shows Peter denying that he knows Jesus to others. The painting shows a God that it not present in Peter's life. If God were present in peters life, he would not have denied Jesus, so either God needs to help Peter realize what he is doing, or give him a sign that what he is doing is wrong. The painting shows a let-down, upset Jesus because his whole reason for dying to save humanity, and humanity is not treating him fairly. It shows an unfair, rude humanity because even though Jesus is going through great struggle for them, they still deny him.

JESUS BEFORE PILATE

The painting is of Jesus before Pilate. The picture shows that God is great and his plan to save humanity is truly happening. He is proud of his son, but still nervous for him. It says that Jesus is extremely strong. He is in a very scary, tough situation and is handling it very well, without backing down. It shows that humanity likes rules and laws and likes to bend them to suit their won needs. Jesus might not actually by bad, but Pilate is bending the truth to get that the people or humanity wants.

MOCKERY BY THE SOLDIERS

This painting shows a scene of Jesus being mocked by soldiers in a crown of thorns. This says that God doesn't care what people think because he knows what is best, so he is letting them go at Jesus. It shows that Jesus is able to be submissive so when everyone is mocking him he can still keep his cool. It says that humanity feels as if they are righteous and in the upper hand, when they will soon find that God is the real leader.

THE CRUCIFIXION

This is a beautiful stained glass piece that shows Jesus being crucified on the cross. This says that God is willing to do anything for his vision regardless of the pain it will cause him. It shows that Jesus is selfless, believes in his father, and is willing to endure anything for humankind. It tells us that humanity is sorrowful and prayerful, as we see to woman kneeling praying to Jesus.

THE DEATH OF JESUS

This is a painting of Jesus' death on the cross, with 2 "revolutionaries" next to him. This says that God loves all people equally and will do anything to save them. This shows that Jesus is free and no longer has to suffer because he has fulfilled his promise to his father. It also shows that he is fully human and has a low Christology because he died like any other human. It tells us that humanity is saved and elated because we have been saved from our sins and the gates to heaven have been opened. It is the symbol for all humanity to act like Jesus so we can all be better Christian.
