The Story of Medusa and Athena

Retold by Kallie

Medusa was considered one of the most lovely in all of Greece

Medusa was considered one of the most lovely in all of Greece

She was beautiful and she made sure she told everyone! She gazed at her reflection as often as she could.

One day she went to the beautiful land of Parthenon. Everything was inspired and watched over by the goddess of wisdom, Athena.

While looking at the sculptures and artwork, Medusa thought that it would be better if it was based on her.

Those around Medusa grew nervous and frightened; afraid that Athena may have overheard what she was saying.

The temple emptied and Medusa was left alone to gaze at herself. Suddenly, Athena
appeared.

There is more to life than being beautiful! Athena said. Medusa tried to defend herself by saying that her beauty simply made everyone's lives better.

In response, Athena takes Medusas' beauty to serve as a reminder for all others to control their pride.

Medusa's hair turned to snakes and her face hideous!

Athena warned, if anyone looks at you they will turn to stone, if you see your reflection you will also turn to stone.

Athena then sent Medusa to the ends of the earth to save all of humanity from accidentally turning to stone.
