WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE

  • Primary Succession is new bare rocks or new land.
  • Secondary Succession is where plants grow back on disturbed land.

PIONEER SPECIES

  • Pioneer Species are the first plants to grow in a disturbed area.
  • Some pioneer species are flowers, grass, lichens, mosses.
  • Grass grows in both primary and secondary succession.

  • Flowers are grown early in secondary succession.

LICHENS

  • Lichens are found in primary succession.

MOSS

  • Moss is grown during primary succession and secondary succession.

CLIMAX COMMUNITY

  • Where plants stop getting taller but widen.
  • Most other life of other plants has virtually stopped.
  • End of Succession.
  • This is a picture or an oak tree that has reached its climax.

CLIMAX

  • These rainforest trees have fully grown and are a part of a climax community.

  • Rocks are made over time from the rock cycle.

SMALL PLANTS

SMALL PLANTS HAVE GROWN ON THE TRAIL.

CLIMAX COMMUNITY

  • The trees have stopped growing and are now in the climax community

PIONEER

  • The grass and other small plants are growing on the trail before larger plants grow

  • Moss has covered the rock.
