  • The processing time in the factory is known as The Campaign
  • The beet was brought to the factory on house and cart and canal boat from farms in Carlow and Laois
  • The sugar plant was a corner stone for the local economy

Graiguenamanagh, we're run off our feet, Pullin', and crownin', and loadin' the beet.
Our hands there all blistered,
Our backs are nearly broke
And divil a minute we get for a smoke

Carlow had a good rail and waterway connections,

So its produce could be conveniently transported around the country
