OLD TAMIL

  • Old Tamil was used from 5th century BCE to 8th century CE.
  • There are writings in caves and pots that are in Old Tamil.

MIDDLE TAMIL

  • Middle Tamil took over during the 8th century.
  • Small changes were made in grammer.
  • Old phonemes disappeared and present tense changed.

MODERN TAMIL

  • There are many sound changes.
  • The conjugation of verbs have fallen out of use.
  • Tamil written has also changed. For example, punctuation changed when written.
