THE TOUNGE SENSES

  • Sour
  • Bitter
  • Sweet
  • Salty

THE LARGE TASTEBUDS

  • Are in the back of the tongue
  • Sense bitterness

MEDIUM-SMALL BUDS

  • Sense saltiness
  • Located just above the tip, on each side

MEDIUM-LARGE TASTE BUDS

  • Recognize sour flavors
  • On the left & right sides just below large buds

THE SMALLEST TASTEBUDS

  • Are on the tip of the tongue
  • Sweetness is perceived

THE SUBLINGUAL GLAND

  • Produces saliva just under the tongue through a small opening

THE TOUNGUE ALSO

  • Helps with chewing food
  • Helps prevent gagging/choking
  • Helps push food back for swallowing

IT CAN BE HELPFUL

  • To clean your mouth and cheeks of extra food
