THE ATOMIC TRAGEDY OF HIROSHIMA...

YOSHITAKA KAWAMOTO,

THROUGH THE LENSE OF

YOSHITAKA

WAS 13 WHEN THE ATOMIC BOMB HIT

HE WAS IN A CLASSROOM

WHEN HE SAW HIS FRIEND POINT AT THE B-29

HIS CLASSMATES

WERE SINGING THEIR SCHOOL SONG

HOPING

THAT SOMEONE WOULD HEAR

BUT NO ONE DID.

SLOWLY THE VOICES STARTED DISSAPATING.

YOSHITAKA

WAS BADLY INJURED BUT COULD ESCAPE.

AS HE LEFT, HE SHUFFLED THROUGH BODIES

TO FIND SOMEONE HE COULD HELP.

YOSHITAKA FOUND

HIS CLASSMATE LAYING ON THE FLOOR AND HELD HIM UP.

HIS SKULL WAS CRACKED OPEN

AND ONLY HAD ONE EYE LEFT.

HE REACHED IN HIS POCKET

AND TOLD YOSHITAKA TO DELIVER HIS NOTEBOOK TO HIS MOTHER.

YOSHITAKA'S CLASSMATE FAINTED.

THE WORDS STILL REMAIN IN YOSHITAKA'S DREAMS. "MOTHER, MOTHER."

YOSHITAKA

MADE HIS WAY OUT OF THE BUILDING

HOPEFUL HANDS

WERE GRABBING HIS ANKLES AS HE TRIED TO ESCAPE.

YOSHITAKA WAS 13.

HE KICKED THE HOPEFUL HANDS OUT OF HIS PATH TO SURVIVAL.

HE MADE HIS WAY TO THE RIVER

WHERE HE PUSHED BODIES ASIDE TO DRINK,

AND FELL UNCONSCIOUS.

YOSHITAKA WAS LUCKY.

WHEN HE WOKE UP

HE FOUND OUT HE WAS PUT INTO A TRUCK

A TRUCK WITH DEAD BODIES

YOSHITAKA

WAS PLACED ON THE TOP OF THE PILE WHEN...

FELT HIS PULSE

ONE OF THE WORKERS

AND PULLED HIM ASIDE

FROM THE REST

YOSHITAKA

WAS ONE LUCKY BOY.

HE REGAINED

HIS HEALTH IN ONE YEAR

AND LIVES TO SHARE

HIS STORY WITH OTHERS.

YOSHITAKA KAWAMOTO

WANTS HIS STORY TO BE PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.

TO BE SHARED WITH THE WORLD.

SO THAT MANKIND WILL NOT LEAD TO ANNIHILATION.

"THAT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY." - KAWAMOTO
