PRESENTATION OUTLINE
THE TRIBES OF THE AMAZON-ART
The Tribes of the Amazon no matter were they were in the rainforest, loved art. Art was thought upon as a way of expressing yourself.
Unfortunately for them their were not any places they can buy pencils, paintbrushes,
pre-prepared paint or chalk from.
what they DID have to work with
- Mud
- Grass
- Wood
- Dirt
- Flowers
- Plants
Different Tribes would make different types of art. From baskets and masks to body art and paintings.
The Yanomami Tribe was famous for there baskets. They would use wood splints, dried out grass or hay. Weaving them in to baskets. This was traditional done by the women and children of the tribes while the males were out hunting.
Some Tribes of the Amazon used paints. They would have to find flowers, plants or berries that made dyes. They squash their berries, plants and flowers it to a juice. Then they would boil the substance in to a liquid.
VEGETATION DYES
- Bloodroot- used for red dyes
- Mountain alder- used for browns
- Smooth sumac- used for red dyes
- Butternut- used for black and brown dyes
- Honey Locust- used for yellow dyes
Some Tribes would make masks for special occasions. They would crave the base out of strong wood. Paint the surface with dyes. Kill birds for there colourful feathers and make a headset.
The Tribes of the Amazon were smart and creatively artistic in the way they present art. In some ways I prefer their artworks to Leonardo de Vinci's Mona Lisa!
