SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TITLE
- Mara begins as what one would classify a "normal teenager" however as the book unfolds we can see that she is becoming something more.
- She is not who she thought she once was and the new her is unbecoming to herself and those close to her

ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER
- Mara has a mental/pshychological "gift"
- Mara is able to kill people with her mind to protect herself, to protect those in danger, or those who make her angry
- Mara believes that she is a monster and wants to turn herself into the police
- Noah does his best to help Mara believe that her gift can be used for the good
