PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
BY SIDNEY SHERRILL
2.
INTRODUCTION
The Underground Railroad began in the first half of the 19th century.
It got its name because its actions were to be carried out in secret.
It's goal was to help slaves reach the north where they would be free.
3.
PEOPLE
The Underground Railroad was a network of people working together with the same goal in mind.
If someone was caught helping a slave they would be forced to go to jail or pay a fine.
Harriet Tubman, Levi Coffin, John Fairfield, and Fredrick Douglass were famous for risking their lives to help slaves.

RESULTS
The Underground Railroad was very successful.
Around 10,000-40,000 slaves gained freedom.
Not all slaves made it to freedom because they were either captured or killed during the journey.
