THE PLAGUE IS SPREADING!

HOW THE VIRUS MAKES ITS MATES

WHAT IS THE LYTIC CYCLE?

  • A virus enters a host cell.
  • The virus injects its DNA into the cell.
  • The cell replicates the viral DNA.
  • The copies grow into new viruses.
  • The viruses burst out of the cell, killing it.

WHY CAN'T PLANTS CATCH A COLD?

  • Certain viruses can only affect certain organisms.
  • One of these viruses is the cold.
  • Most viruses that affect humans don't affect other organisms, and vice versa.
  • An example is the tobacco mosaic virus.
  • This virus can only affect tomato plants.

HOW ARE VIRUSES STOPPED?

  • Viruses are stopped using a lengthy process.
  • The process is called vaccination.
  • There are certain vaccines for each virus.
  • You've probably had a flu shot before.
  • That's an example of a vaccine.

POP QUIZ!
