The First Apparition:
Juan Diego was going to Tlatelolco to attend Mass. As he was passing Tepeyac Hill, he saw a brilliant light at the top and heard celestial music. Then he heard a feminine voice asking him to come up. When he reached the top he saw the Blessed Virgin Mary standing in the midst of a glorious light. She spoke to him in his native language. She told him she was the perfect and eternal Virgin Mary, Mother of the true God, and made known to him her desire that a shrine be built there where she could demonstrate her love, compassion and protection.

Symbol of Vision
Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared for the forth time and assured Juan that his uncle would recover. She instructed him to go out and gather fresh roses that he would find on the frosty summit of the rocky and barren hill. Once this was done, Our Lady rearranged the roses in his cloak and rushed him to the Bishop. This was later know as "The Miracle of the Pink Roses"
