The Water Cycle

This is the same slide I did in 4th grade. I just made changes to it.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Water Cycle

By David Zhu /Ms. Lyons Homeroom
This slide show is about the water cycle. It's the one I made in 4th grade,

Water Cycle

  • Evaporation
  • Condensation
  • Precipitation
  • Run-off
  • Transpiration
  • Collection

Evaporation

  • Evaporate-v. to change from a liquid or solid state into a vapor; pass off in vapor
  • The Sun is the main cause of evaporation
  • When ocean water is evaporated, salt is left behind
  • When water is evaporated, liquid water turns to water vapor
  • The next step is condensation

Condensation

  • Condensation-n. the process of reducing a gas or vapor to a liquid form
  • When water vapor rises ,it condenses and turns into liquid and forms clouds in the sky
  • Clouds get bigger until it is too heavy
  • The next step is precipitation

Precipitation

  • Precipitation-n. falling products of condensation in the atmosphere, as rain, hail,or snow
  • When clouds get too heavy to hold, the water precipitates as rain, hail, or snow
  • The next step is run-off

Collection

  • When water precipitates, the water is either soaked in the ground or collects in lakes, rivers,or oceans. This is called collection.
  • Almost 50% of precipitated water ends up in bodies of water .The other 50% end up as groundwater .
  • The next step is evaporation...again

Run-off

  • runoff-n. something that drains or flows off as rain that flows off land in streams
  • Water that soaks in the ground or flows off in streams or rivers is called run-off
  • The next step is collection

Transpiration

  • transpiration-n. the passage of water through a plant from the roots to the vascular system in the atmosphere
  • Transpiration is when water evaporates from plants

The water cycle is important because if we didn't, the plants wouldn't have had survived millions of years ago, and since life depends on plants, we wouldn't have life on Earth, including us. Even if life did not depend on plants, we would not have water to drink ourselves.
