The one thing that I have learned this year that helped me grow up to be a wise and better person was to always be yourself. I learned this while reading The Wednesday Wars. While Holling was being forced to be an architect by his father I learned to let no one tell me what to do.
Holling's worst month was December. This was his worst month because at the end of the chapter, after he performed in a play, his guts were crushed by Mickey Mantle who wouldn't sign his baseball because he was wearing tights.
Holling's best month was June. This was his best month because during this month he gains the most guts and matures the most, he stands up to his dad (guts), realizes that his one ally all year was Mrs. Baker (maturity) and supports his friend against his dad. (Danny Hupfer)
The war that changed him the most was the war that he had with his dad. This changed him the most because it happened throughout the year. At first he couldn't stand up to his dad at all and then at the end of the book he had a fight with his dad and gained enough guts to tell him he didn't want to be an architect.
I think Holling would give himself a B as a grade for the whole year because he ended up the best he could ask for, lot of guts, and becoming a lot more mature but he didn't get there easy. That is why I think he would give himself a B because he didn't have a perfect year but came out strong.
The gutsiest thing Holling does in the novel was stand up to his father. For the whole book he couldn't stand up to his father but gained enough gut by the end of the book to do so. This was very gutsy because his father is the ruling person in the family, and was choosing Holling's past for him. That is why this was the gutsiest thing Holling did that year.
The one teacher that was my ally was Mrs. Scholes, she helped me through a lot she always was generous when it came to helping me out with studying and extra credit (quiz corrections). She was also very caring I noticed this around the classroom and personally.
