-Ted credited his mother with both his ability and desire to create the rhymes for which he became so well known.

  • Oxford for English
  • Left to pursue drawing
-Graduated from Dartmouth in 1925
-Became editor and chief for humor magazine
got caught with a group drinking had to withdraw; worked in code name "Seuss" (his middle name) under the table
-Left Oxford in pursuit of his passion in drawing

Early in his life

  • His father: superintendent of city parks
  • Theo spent many days at the zoo
  • watched & drew the animals
  • His famous characters began to form
-His father owned a brewery until Prohibition
-Geisel's father then took a job as superintendent of city parks, which included the local zoo
- Theo spent many days drawing the animals and eventually developing his own unique style. -he never once had an art lesson.
