SISTER MAURA CLARKE

  • Born in Queens, NY, on January 13, 1931
  • She joined the Maryknoll sisters in New York
  • She was sent to Nicaragua to teach school at a parish
  • She went El Salvador to help Archbishop Romero
  • There she helped refugees and ministered to people

SISTER DOROTHY KAZEL

  • She was born June 30, 1939
  • She joined the Ursuline Sisters Order
  • She joined a mission team in El Salvador
  • She visited home bound parishioners
  • Also help El Salvadoran refugees

SISTER ITA FORD

  • She was born in Brooklyn, NY in April of 1940
  • She joined the Maryknoll Sisters in 1961
  • She was assigned to Chilé for a couple years
  • She was called to minister to people in El Salvador
  • There she helped the refugees and homeless

JEAN DONOVAN

  • She was born in Westport, Connecticut, in April of 1953
  • She went to El Salvador to volunteer, wanting to add to her life
  • She helped refugees get to safety
  • All four women were captured by the National Guard of El Salvador
  • They were taken to an isolated area and murdered on December 2, 1980

WHAT THEY SUFFERED

  • They struggled with seeing God's people struggling
  • They ultimately gave up their lives for the good of the people
  • They are Christ-like because they gave up their lives for others
  • They dedicated their lives to service of others
  • Their ministry in El Salvador touched many lives
