1721-1787, LOYALIST

WHERE DID HE LIVE?

  • Thomas Gage was born in Firle, England in 1721
  • He lived in England until he joined the British army
  • Upon ranking up, he was then transferred to America
  • He lived in Massachusetts when he was appointed governor there
  • After the Revolution, was was transferred back to England

BEFORE THE REVOLUTION

  • Born in 1721
  • He attended school in Britain
  • He was sent to America for the French and Indian War

IN THE REVOLUTION

  • He was appointed governor of Massachusetts
  • He tried to enforce acts like the Quartering and Stamp Acts
  • He ordered the advance at Concord
  • This was the most immediate cause of the Revolutionary War

AFTER THE REVOLUTION

  • Sent back to England and was semi-retired
  • Called upon for a possible French invasion
  • Died in 1787

IMPORTANCE

  • He was very important on Britains enforcement in America
  • His actions were the most immediate cause of the War
  • He could have changed the outcome of the War

  • He was narrow-minded about how he ruled Massachusetts
