PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THROUGH MY EYES

BY: RUBY BRIDGES

I learned that the ku klux klan is a segregation organization that burned crosses in front of African Americans yards. People did it to so that the African Americans would be scared to walk out of their houses, and sadly it worked.

👈I chose the picture with the burning cross because on that slide it talked about how people went on African Americans yard's and burnt crosses. I wanted to show what it looked like when white people burnt the crosses. It was a sad time when people did that. I chose to write about the Ku Klux Klan because that was a big event in my book, and I wanted to talk about it more.

In the book Through My Eyes I learned that when Ruby went to school for her first day at William Frantz, parents and kids were yelling at her and making threats to her. When I read that I felt really bad because I couldn't believe that parents and little kids were yelling at her so much. There was even a kid holding up a coffin with a black baby doll in it.

👈I chose to write about Ruby's first day at school because it was a very very big deal. It was a big deal because Ruby was the first African American to enter an all white school, plus she was only six years old. I chose the picture of people yelling because when Ruby went to William Frantz on her first day parents were yelling at her, the picture shows actual parents yelling at her on her first day of school.

Everyday when Ruby went to school she had to have Marshall's walk her to the building because people would try to grab her and make threats to her. The Marshall's protected her from the angry mob every morning. In the picture you can see that people were throwing tomatoes at her. At this time Ruby was only six years old!

👈 I choose to write about the Marshall's because I thought that it was important to talk about. I think it was important to talk about because if Ruby did not have Marshall's walk with her then people could grab her and be really mean to her. The Marshall's were their to protect her from the mob of people.

While Ruby was going to William Frantz Elementary school she got to know her teacher really well. Her teacher's name was Mrs. Henry. They grew to love each other and Mrs. Henry didn't care that Ruby was an African American. She taught Ruby so much. In this picture Ruby is on the right and Mrs. Henry was on the left.

👈I chose the picture of Ruby and Mrs. Henry sitting next to each other because it shows that they are still good friends, no matter what happens.

Ruby was one day walking upon a mob with her Marshall's heading to school when a guy named Dr. Coles saw her and he became interested in her. He wondered how Ruby could go through such an ordeal. Soon after that he went to the NAACP to offer his help. So Dr. Coles started to work with Ruby. They talked about how Ruby was doing and Ruby mostly told him I was doing fine. He would tell Ruby to draw a picture of people in her school. After that they would talk about the pictures. Dr. Coles helped Ruby a lot with her feelings.

👈 I wrote about Dr. Coles because he was a person in Ruby's life that was important. He helped Ruby make friends.
