WHAT IS A THUNDERSTORM

  • A THUNDER STORM IS AN INTENSE LOCAL STORM THAT FORMS
  • Strong winds, Heavy rain, lightning and Thunder

HOW DOES A THUNDERSTORM FORM

  • Thunderstorms are formed by the uplifting of warm and humid air
  • When humid air is lifted, it will cool and the moisture in the air will condense to form clouds
  • Water droplets in the cloud continue to grow
  • A cumulonimbus cloud results when it grows to a height of 6 to 12 miles
  • Thunderstorms are produced by cumulonimbus clouds.

WHY THUNDERSTORMS ARE DANGEROUS

  • Thunderstorms are dangerous because they produce lightning, which can kill or injure people
  • Lightning can knock over trees which can fall on houses, cars, power lines and people
  • When you hear thunder you are in danger of lightning
  • Lightning is an electrical current so try to stay indoors during a thunderstorm
