The protests started as a memorial to Hu Yaobang. Who was once the general secretary of the chinese communist party

Hu Yaobang and his radical views hooked young students.
he as forced to resign by military officials in 1987
And the day following his death thousands of students gathered in memorial to him

press arrived to what they believed would be simple reporting on a memorial but they ended up with the forever memorable tianeman squre incident

Protests were forcibly stopped when the government declared martial law

In what widely became known as the Tiananmen square massacre in where military armed with assault rifles and tanks killed innocent civilians trying to stop their march to Tienanmen square

Hundreds to thousands were killed during the massacre and it has been estimated that over ten thousand were arrested during and after on June 4th 1989

On June 5,1989 an unidentified man stepped in front of a column of tanks delaying them for a time period. he was thus named "Tank man"

No one know what happened to tank man. some say he was pulled back into the crowd of protestors still there and escapd before the gov. could punih him. others say he was caught and soon after punished for his actions

Chinese gov. want people to forget what happened in Tiananmen square and have tried to do so by restricting talk about it and google searches to block access to info about tank man or the whole ordeal itself
