TIDAL BORES

  • wave caused by the funneling of a flood tide as it enters a long, narrow, shallow inlet.

WHAT CONDITIONS ARE NEEDED FOR TIDAL BORE TO OCCUR.

  • The river must be fairly shallow.
  • It must have a narrow outlet to the sea.
  • estuary, or place where the river meets the sea, must be wide and flat.

QIANTANG RIVER, CHINA

  • southeast Chinese river that originates in the borders of Anhui and Jiangxi .
  • Largest river on Zhenjiang province

DESCRIPTION

  • water can rise up to a height of 30 feet
  • noise sounds like thunder, or thousands of horses running.
  • They watch this tide at festivals
  • River Tidal Bore Watching Festival last from July 17th to October 7th.
  • The best day to see this is the 18th day of lunar month
