DESCRIPTION

  • Weight: 36-45 kg
  • Height:80-85 cm
  • Speed: 50-60 km/h
  • Looks like a mix between a coyote and a Husky
  • Brownish with grey or black on the top of the back

SPECIES NUMBERS

  • About 13,000 in USA
  • A very small controlled population in Kentucky
  • Reproduce once a year
  • 4-6 pups per little but more possible
  • Not just the mom raises them, the whole pack does.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Eat mammals, birds, vermin. Top predator.
  • Shelter in caves or thick brush
  • Prefer cold weather over warm

MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

  • Wolfs may be introduced to control the populations of other animals
  • The only way to decrease wolf population is to decrease resources or hunt
  • To aid the population growth you may introduce a prey animal

HABITAT REQUIRMENTS

  • Large mammals
  • A steady water source
  • Something to den in
  • Prefer cooler temperatures
  • You may control population by modifying prey populations

PLAN

  • Introduce a large prey animal such as deer or elk, and establish them
  • Introduce a single wolf pack and track them in the wild
  • Slowly let them grow and control them if things get out of line
  • After they have a copious population, introduce small hunting season
  • Allow a "pest tag" system for people to kill if become a problem
