COLUMBUS SAILED TO THE AMERICAS

  • August 3 1492
  • Columbus led his three ships- the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa maria- out of the spanish port of Palos.
  • Columbus thought he could sail west and reach Asia, but he landed in the Caribbean and thought it was the East Indies.

CORTEZ CONQUERS THE AZTECS.

  • April 13 1521
  • It was lead by Hernando Cortez.
  • A battle was between the army of Cortes and Aztec people under the rule of Montezuma.
  • Those events were crucial to the making of the American lands.
  • Also, it's been the subject of a historical debate in these present years.

COPERNICUS PRESENTS THE HELIOCENTRIC THEORY

  • April 13 1543
  • It was a theory that he sun was the center of the Universe.
  • Copernicus wrote a book called, ""on the revolutions of the heavenly bodies"".
  • The result of him making that book made the Catholic and Protestant church very mad.

EUROPE SUFFERS FROM INFLATION

  • When the increasing amount of gold coming to Spain, the gold was being worth less.
  • That result made Spain have inflation.
  • A result of the inflation was warfare, plague, famine.

PHILLIP II SENDS AN ARMADA TO INVADE ENGLAND

  • April 17 1588
  • The invasion was a disaster because England's ships were a lot faster and smaller.
  • But, if the invasion went well, Protestantism in England would have come to an end.

KING JAMES GIVES CHARTER TO LONDON INVESTOR

  • April 17 1606
  • King James gave a charter to found a colony in North America to a group of London investors.
  • Those colonists were more focused on finding gold and weren't really planting crops.
  • The result was many died from hunger and disease.

ENGLISH SETTLE JAMESTOWN

  • May 14 1607
  • English settlement in the Chesapeake region of North America
  • By December, 104 settlers went from London to settle Virginia, find gold, and seek a water route to the Orient.
  • People believe that those pioneers in Jamestown could not have been more ill-suited for the task.

LOUIS XIV OF FRANCE BEGINS HIS REIGN

  • December 15 1643
  • When he became king, he was very popular.
  • At his death, the people of Paris hated him because his many wars had made him unpopular.
  • He was also known as the Sun King.

PETER THE GREAT OF RUSSIA BEGINS HIS REIGN

  • April 13 1682.
  • Peter became tsar when he was only ten years old.
  • Peter implemented sweeping reforms aimed at modernizing Russia
  • In his early years at a tsar, he wasnt interested in governemtnt,

GLORIOUS REVOLUTION IN ENGLAND

  • April 13 1688
  • William of Orange and his Mary were invited by the Parliament to take power in England.
  • The Glorious Revolution was called "glorious" because there were no bloodshed involved.
  • James II wanted to rule and established the Roman Catholic religion which the people did not like.
