The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the culture ,Explosion that took place in Harlem between the end of World War 1 and the the end of the 1940's.During this period Harlem was a cultural center ,artists ,musicians ,photographers ,poets,and scholars.

1910

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE

1912: James Wildom Johnson's novel autobiography of an ex-Colored Man was published

1917:
-Marcus Gravy born in Jamaica arrived in Harlem and Founded the Negro Improvement Association
-Between 10,000 and 15,000 African Americans joined the Silent Parade and marched down Fifth Avenue
-Politically radical publication the messenger is founded
-Two of Claude Mckay's poems are published in the white literary journal seven arts

1919

  • The 369th Infantry Regiment , a highly decorated unit of entirely African-American Soldiers , returned from world war 1 to Harlem
  • Jessie Redom Fauset became literary editor of Crisis
  • W.E.B Du Bois organizes the PAN-African congress in Paris in Febuary
