THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR 1753 - 1760

  • Started in 1753 lasted seven years ended in 1760.
  • Both countries had Indian allies.
  • Many of the boundaries changed because of the war.
  • 1753 England and France go to war for control of colonies and trade.
  • England wins and claims the land of France.

PROCLAMATION OF 1763.

  • American colonists resented King George the Third.
  • King George the Third kept the colonists from settling new farm lands.
  • Colonists starting to move over to the indians land after King George told them not to.
  • King George sent over 7,500 troops to protect.

STAMP ACT 1765

  • American colonists did not like how they were not represented.
  • All paper items had to be taxed.
  • American colonists protested any tax levied without their consent.

THE QUARTERING ACT 1765

  • Colonists believed the quartering act violated their right of property.
  • They also believed the quartering act violated the subsequent right of assembly.
  • King George practically said that the American colonists had to raise money to supply his soldiers.

TOWNSHEND ACT 1767

  • Charles Townshend created Townshend.
  • Buying the loyalty of the governor.

BOSTON MASSACRE MARCH 5, 1770

  • The serious of events turned the colonists into angry rebellious americans.
  • Night of March 5th 1770 Bostonians harass a group of soldiers.
  • Shots are fired 5 dead including 2 boys
  • Paul Revere creates an image of the scene. Makes soldiers look like murderes.
  • John Adams defendsthe soldiers saying they were not guilty.

BOSTON TEA PARTY 1773

  • They are not buying from England, England is not making any money.
  • After the Boston massacre (1770) things calmed down in Boston.
  • Tea tax which loyalists dont mind.

THE TEA ACT 1773

  • Made tea super cheap.
  • Colonists only buy from the British East Indian company.
  • Colonial Tea merchants couldn't sell tea anymore.

FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 1774

  • 56 delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia.
  • This meeting was a response to the intolerable act.
  • They demanded fair treatment and peace from England not independence.
  • They wanted King George the third to stop taxing the colonies without their consent.
  • Colonists continued to boycott and stop trade with Britain and warned militias to be prepared for war.

SECOND CONTINENTAL CONGRESS 1775

  • George Washington was the commander in chief of the Continental Army in May 5th 1775.
  • Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Thomas Paine became the leading propagandist of the American Revolution.
  • The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Congress on July 4, 1776
  • With the adoption of the Independence americans officialy sentthe message of freedom from England.
