1820-MISSOURI COMPROMISE

  • Congress has to establish a policy of slavery growth
  • Congress made a series of arguments called the Missouri Compromise which made Maine free and Missouri a slave state for equality.

1831-NAT TURNERS REBELLION

  • A Soave names Nat Turner started an uprising in southern Virginia
  • He killed more that 60 white men and later he was executed

1846-1850 The Wilmot Proviso

  • This a is a legislation made by David Wilmot close to the end of the Mexican American War
  • It would outlaw slavery that the U.S. Got as a result of the war

COMPROMISE OF 1850

  • This made all the Northerners return all slaves to the South that escaped to the North

1852-UNCLE TOMS CABIN

  • This was a fictional book about a slave's hard life
  • When the North read it they protested against the South of how slavery is "slanderous"

1854-1861 BLEEDING KANSAS

  • This is when Kansas split and some wanted to be a free state and some a slave state
  • They had a war in Kansas where they actually killed each other

1857-DRED SCOTT

  • Dread Scott is a slave that tried a case against his slave master to the Supreme Court but was denied because he was a slave not a citizen.

1859-JOHN BROWN'S RAID

  • John Brown was a killer for anti slavery during Bleeding Kansas
  • He raided a government arsenal in Harpers Ferry
  • But was forced to surrender by Robert E. Lee

1860-PRESIDENT LINCOLN'S ELECTION

  • Where Lincoln won the election as a Republican
  • He wanted to stop slavery

CIVIL WAR

  • The first "war" against each other
  • Battle against the North and The South
  • Main reason because of Slavery
