The Titanic was well known as the largest and most luxurious passenger liner in the world. It was designed by Thomas Andrews. The Titanic was known as the "unsinkable ship". On April 14 , 1912 at 11:40 PM the Titanic hit and iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship was sinking in less then 3 hours on April 15, 1912.

FACTS

  • The Titanic weighed 46,000 tons.
  • It has 9 decks and is 175 feet high.
  • There 4 smokestacks, each one of them are 22 feet wide and 6 stories high.
  • It took 3,000 people to built it and 3 years.
  • In 1912 1st class passengers had to pay $4,300 and for 3rd class passengers its $36.
  • There were many activities to do such as swimming, gym, and 3 cigar rooms.
  • Titanic started its journey from Southampton England on April 10, 1912 ; was suppose to arrive on April 17, 1912.
  • Half way through its journey the Titanic struck an iceberg. The cut was 220-245 feet wide.
  • The passenger survival rate was: 1st class 60%, 2nd class 42%, 3rd class 25%.
