PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE DEATH OF UNIVERSE

THE END OF TIME AND SPACE AS WE KNOW IT

INTRODUCTION

  • Many theories out there
  • These theories may never happen
  • Provide interesting ways to think about the universe
  • Big Rip
  • Big Freeze
  • Big Crunch
  • Big Bounce
  • Big Slurp

BIG CRUNCH

  • Universe is closed or in a sphere shape
  • Dark energies effects will decrease
  • Gravity will stop the growth of the universe
  • Universe contracts, matter collapses to point
  • Will happen about 100 billion years
  • Could be another Big Bang

THE BIG BOUNCE

  • Similar to the Big Crunch
  • The force of compression starts another Big Bang
  • Matter is just reused
  • Some say the universe doesn't go to singularity
  • It gets close but is repelled
  • Results in a new Big Bang
  • This could be the 1st or the 34th universe

THE BIG FREEZE

  • Aka the Heat Death
  • Due to the ever expanding universe
  • 4% matter
  • 22% Dark Matter
  • 74% Dark Enegry
  • Dark Energy will continue to expand with the universe
  • Dilute matter and Dark Matter

THE BIG FREEZE CONTINUED

  • Dark energy will continue to expand with the universe
  • Dilute matter and dark matter
  • Stars will run out of gas to burn
  • Universe will become a cold and empty place

BIG RIP

  • Universe is expanding, new space is made equally
  • Space grows so fast that they move apart
  • Gravity holds it together
  • Expansion of space is so fast gravity can't keep up
  • Hence a big rip
  • Black holes and stars will rip apart
  • Dissolve into their elements

THE BIG RIP continued

  • Eventually universe expands faster than light
  • Atoms will disband
  • No other particles can interact with each other
  • Would happen 22 billion years
  • Sun from main sequence to red giant
  • Would destroy earth in the process

THE BIG SLURP

  • A radical shift in he forces of the universe
  • Called a phase transition
  • If a quantum bubble from a different universe comes here
  • Disrupt our quantum state
  • Bubble will expand and pull all particles together
  • Could happen anytime
  • It won't take much time to end the universe
  • Made in 2012

IT WONT END

  • We live in a multiverse
  • There are infinite universes
  • Our universe is just one of many
  • If ours end then the whole universe is still "alive"
  • Because matter is still there
  • New universes are being created all the time
  • The number of new ones is more than the amount of old
  • The number of universes is still increasing

CONCLUSION

  • We might never know when it will end
  • We might never know what will happen
  • What will the end result look like?
  • Very grim endings and not very fun
  • It's interesting to think about a place where time has no place
