WHEN DID THE FAMINE START?

  • It all started in the year 1845, when the people couldn’t grow crops properly, this was because of the disease “Blight”.

🥣 SOUP KITCHENS 🥣

  • During the Great Famine in the year 1846, Quakers (A.K.A the Society of Friends) set up Soup Kitchens around Ireland.

📈 POPULATION 📈

  • In 1801, the population of Ireland was approximately 5 million, but in about 40 years later, the population has increased into 8 million! Thats double of Ireland’s population today!

💵 FOOD PRICES DURING THE FAMINE 💵

  • In 1846, it costed 20 shillings which is worth 4 or 5 euro per 1 to feed a family of five for a week.
