It all started in the year 1845, when the people couldn’t grow crops properly, this was because of the disease “Blight”.

During the Great Famine in the year 1846, Quakers (A.K.A the Society of Friends) set up Soup Kitchens around Ireland.

In 1801, the population of Ireland was approximately 5 million, but in about 40 years later, the population has increased into 8 million! Thats double of Ireland’s population today!
