Mexican festivals
There are many Mexican festivals for many different things. Festivals are called fiestas in Mexico. One festival is the day of the dead when Mexican families honour their dead relatives.
Day of the dead
Each year on the 1st and 2nd of November Mexican people turn their thoughts to departed friends and relatives. They visit the dearly departed's graves and feed them with sugar models of actual food. The spirits are always alive and watch over their descendants if properly remembered. That is what the day of the dead is for: Remembering and feeding the departed.
Candlearia
This is the Mexican festival of Christmas. Thousands flock to the small riverside town of Tlacotalpan to view a glorious image of the Virgin Mary being floated down the river. For most people however the main attraction is the Son Juracho music festival, which is a three day festival dedicated to traditional Veracruz music.
Veracruz and Mazlatan carnivals
The biggest carnivals in Mexico, the Veracyraz and Mazlatan carnivals, are nine day events in the middle of March, each taking place on a different side of Mexico. They are music carnivals. Mazlatan is a low notes festival and Veracyraz is a high bouncy noted festival.
