PANTHEON

  • The pantheon is a building in rome
  • commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus and rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian about 126 AD.
  • The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns under a pediment

BUILT

  • As the brick stamps revel is was built and dedicated in A.D 118 and 125
  • The emperor Hadrian (A.D 117-138) built the Pantheon to replace Augustus
  • Recent studies reveal several major cracks in the dome, but it still functions unimpaired.

ARCHITECTURE

  • The dome itself is supported by a series of arches that run horizontally round.
  • Roman Pantheon was probably constructed by using an elaborate setup of wooden scaffolding,
  • All the heavy materials are the base of the building, and all the light weight materials are at the top
  • The inside is dome like, with a natural sun light at the top

  • The word Pantheon is a Greek adjective meaning “honor all Gods”.
  • the pantheon was first built as a temple to all gods.
  • The Pantheon now contains the tombs of the famous artist Raphael and of several Italian Kings and poets.
