Why:
There are three reasons for why an individual will conform to a group’s way of thinking, feeling, or behaving. They are wanting group acceptance, keeping a group together, and getting the benefits of being in a popular group/social status.

How:
People want to be accepted so they’ll do lots of things to get that. Maddison Goode says “for example, a person may buy expensive clothes to fit in with their friends or peers” (Goode).

The Negative Influence:
When an individual is getting influence by a group it is usually in a negative way. That person won’t act like themselves and that can be unhealthy.

Relation to the Book:
Huckleberry grew in a friendship with a runaway slave named Jim. Huckleberry was pressured by society and was tempted to turn Jim in because he didn’t want to get caught with a runaway slave. He overcame those obstacles and helped Jim be free.
