PRESENTATION OUTLINE

TKAMB PROJECT: JEM

BY ISAAC COLTER

SYMBOL

  • "My hand was going down on him when Jem spoke. Jem was scowling...(Harper, TKAMB 127).
  • “Why couldn’t I mash him?” I asked. “Because they don’t bother you,” (Harper, TKAMB 127).
  • I choose this because it shows the coming of age in Jem.
  • I choose a chrysalis because it shows the development of Jem.

CHARACTER TRAITS

  • Innocent
  • This is because Jem has shown in many points of the book his ignorance when it came to mature situations
  • “How could they do it, how could they?” “I don’t know, but they did it. They’ve done it before... they’ll do it again and when they do it—seems that only children weep"Harper, TKAMB 113).
  • Simple: I choose this because at that time Jem was the typical rough, energetic, and ambitious American boy
  • “Goin‘ out for football next year"Harper, TKAMB 120)

COLOR REPRESENTATION

  • Green is usually associated with growth and throughout the book Jem both grows physically and mentally.
  • "His eyebrows were becoming heavier, and I noticed a new slimness about his body. He was growing taller"(Harper, TKAMB 120)
  • This is all connected to the coming of age plot.
