Scout
You can just take that back boy" ( Lee 74)scout exclaimed as she was about to punch Cecil Jacobs in the face. But she didn't why. Because she is maturing, Showing integrity and learning from her mistakes. In chapter 8 she fought with her cousin Francis after that Atticus told her to not show violence and to act more of her age. Then in chapter 9 she was ready to punch Cecil but she didn't. This incident gave scout to take a stand for what she believed in without violence.
Characteristics revealed: She is still a little kid but is becoming more mature and taking others advice.

Atticus
In chapter 10 Scout and Gem wonder if their aging father has any talents or skills like their friends at school dads have. Atticus reveals his talent that he has been keeping secret for quite some time. In the winter months a mad dog is seen on the street near Atticus's house ( Lee chapter 10). The sherif hands him the gun and tells him to shoot the dog so he does ( chapter 10). Afterwards Scout and Gem wonder why the sherif handed Atticus the gun and they find out. They found out that Atticus was a really good shot and he has
Hadn't done it for a while because he thought it was an unfair advantage. Atticus is taking a stand by keeping his secret because he believes in being fair and if he is such a good shot he shouldn't go hunting because he would always limit out.
Characteristics Revealed: Role model he is constantly setting an example throughout this book and he does it in this incident as well he shows that having a talent is nothing to brag about and that is what he is trying to teach to his kids along with many other lessons.

Mrs. Dubose
In chapter 11 where the story of Mrs. Dubose is revealed not much is known about her until the end of the chapter. Gem reads to Mrs. Dubose for a month and though he holds a polite smile on his face, in reality he despises her and until the end does he really understand Mrs. Dubose and more of her history. For example in chapter 11 at the end of the chapter Atticus reveals to Gem that she had been a lady and had always been very strong in her ideas. How did Mrs. Dubose take a stand well throughout her whole life she was taking a stand. As Atticus goes on to explain to Gem he says He wants Gem to know what "Real courage" ( Lee chapter 11) is. Atticus continues on and says that "Courage isn't a man with a gun in his hand its when you know you'll be licked before you begin but you do it no matter what you rarely win but Mrs. Dubose won she won all 98 pound of her she died beholden to nothing and nobody" ( Lee chapter 11). I believe that just that story of Mrs. Dubose isn't just a story of courage but having the courage to stand up for what you think is the right thing no matter what other people think.
Characteristics Revealed: In this story we find out who Mrs. Dubose really was she was a lady who believed strongly in what she thought was right and had the courage to stand up for it even when she knew she didn't have a chance.

Calpurnia: Calpurnia isn't really a main character until chapter 12 when Gem and Scout ask if they can go to church with Cal. Up until this point she was taking stands but it wasn't as major as this incident in chapter 12. In this chapter Jem, Scout and Calpurnia are on their way into the church when Lula approaches them and asks them to leave because of the skin color of Jem and Scout. When Lula said to Calpurnia that the whites have their church and the blacks have theirs ( Lee Chapter 12). Calpurnia replied with a resounding "it's the same god ain't it" ( Lee Chapter 12). Her meaning being that no matter what skin color you are because we all are the same except for the skin color. I think that this was a huge part of the book because these people in Maycomb are so racist that they don't even realize it. It might not be the peoples fault they were just born with that belief in them because of the history these two races have with each other people have gotten so entrenched that they don't realize that they are all the same. So I think Calpurnia is one of those people who can see the truth with the races and be able to stand up for it no matter how difficult it is even if you know most people won't believe just like Mrs. Dubose.
Characteristics Revealed: Stubborn and is one of the few people throughout this book that see that there is no difference between white and black not only does she believe in it but she has the courage to stand up for it and won't back down no matter what others say.

Mr. Underwood: Mr. Underwood is a minor character and doesn't have much to say other than what he says in his newspaper. However in chapter 15 we finally get to see Mr. Underwood and what he believes in. In chapter 15 the mob tries to get into the jail cell of Tom Robinson so they can hurt or kill him. However Atticus and Mr. Underwood don't let them in. After Scout talks to the men and the men decide to leave we find out that Mr. Underwood was up in the window of the Maycomb Tribune with his shotgun pointed out of the window. Like some other characters such as Atticus and Calpurnia. Mr. Underwood can see that their is no difference between black and white and he is taking a stand for it. How was he taking a stand for his beliefs? Well if he didn't care about black and whites than he wouldn't be in a window with a shotgun. I think this is another incident where it reveals a huge theme in the book standing up with courage. Like with Mrs. Dubose she knew many didn't agree but that didn't matter to her. That is the exact same with Mr. Underwood he knew there would be many men
and he wouldn't be able to fight them all off but he did it because he cared and had real courage to stand up for what he thought was right even if he had little to no chance.
Characteristics Revealed: Stands up for what he believes in by fighting for what he believes in even if he knows that he doesn't have a chance just because there is a smalld to no chance of winning he will still stick up for it no matter what.

Tom Robinson: Not much is known about Tom's history until the trial before that all we knew was that he was black and was convicted of rapeing Mayella Ewell. In chapter 20 he is in the court and is giving his part of the story. What he is taking a stand for while telling his story in my opinion is more important than anyone else because if he doesn't do it with passion and really care about he could be sentenced to jail for life or even killed. So how did he show passion and emotion its hard because of his whole story. Tom did this by making him look innocent and trying to make judge Taylor realize what some others had realized that just because he was black didn't mean he is a bad person. So he justified everything he did like when Mayella asked Tom to bust up a Chifferobe he says that he did it out of kindness and didn't except the nickel Mayella had offered him.
Characteristics Revealed: Hard working and does nice things for people even if the people he is doing nice things for aren't good people he still feels sorry for them.

Dolphus Raymond: Dolphus isn't even really a character up until this point he was mentioned once or twice but we only knew that he was a drunk and liked to hang out with blacks but it was never a very big event. In chapter 20 Jem and Scout bump into him and Jem takes a sip of his Drink and they find out all it is is Coca Cola and realize that he has been pretending to be drunk the whole time. When they ask him why he pretends he answers with a simple statement he says that he knows people don't like his way of life and that he doesn't really care but he goes on to say that people are mean to blacks without even stopping and getting to know them. In my opinion this is taking a stand because he is stating that he doesn't care what others think no matter what he will hang out with the blacks because he wants to.
Characteristics Revealed: Doesn't care what others think he will do what he wants and what he thinks is right.
