AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE

  • The climate of Togo is a humid, tropical climate.
  • Agriculture is the most important sector to most of Togo.
  • Food crops (mainly cassava, yams, maize, millet, and sorghum) account for two-thirds of production.
  • Togo's cash crops are mainly cocoa, coffee, cotton, and to a lesser extent, palm oil.

EDUCATION AND TYPE OF GOVERNMENT

  • After the age of five, all children can commence school, providing they can pay the school fees. On average, boys are three times more likely to complete primary schooling than girls. This then increases into secondary schooling and is most marked in the rural central and northern regions.
  • Secondary schooling is more common in the south, and numerous public and private schools offer the French baccalaureate system. Togo has one university, located in the capital of Lome, and it offers first-level and second-level degrees in medicine and law, as well as in the arts and sciences.
  • The type of government that Togo has is republic under transition to multiparty democratic rule

WARS TOGO HAS BATTLED IN

  • Many people don't know this, but Togo actually battled in World War I.
  • They were fighting against Germany, then afterwards they gained their own independence from Germany and became Togo instead of Togoland.

INDUSTRIES

  • They have a Phosphate industry which produces phosphate.
  • Although the industry looks good in the short term, it is likely to face growing international competition, especially as world phosphate fertilizer demand is falling.
