TONGUE TWISTER

  • Your tongue is made up of lots of little muscles.
  • The muscles run in different directions to carry out all of the tongues jobs.
  • Your tongue helps you eat.
  • The back of yor tongue mixes your food into saliva.

TONGUE HELD DOWN TIGHT

  • You can't swallow your tongue because of your frenulum.
  • Your frenulum is a membrane (a thin layer of tissue).

TASTY TIDBITS

  • Your tongue is covered with a layer of bumps called papillae
  • They help grip your food when you eat.
  • They also contain your taste buds and those help you to taste you food.
  • People are born with 10,000 taste buds.

TRAVELING TASTES

  • Each taste bud is made from taste cells.
  • They have microscopic hairs called microvilli.
  • Microvillis send messages to the brain.

FRIEND OF THE TONGUE

  • Food doesn't taste normal when you have a cold.
  • Your nose helps your tongue taste food.
  • Strong smells can confuse your taste buds

FIGHTING GERMS

  • Your tongue even helps you from getting sick.
  • The back section of your tongue contains something called the lingual tonsil.
  • Tonsils are small pieces of tissue that filers out bad germs.

THE TONGUE IS ONE TOUGH WORKER

  • Your tongue nevers has a break.
  • Even when your sleeping your tongue is pushing saliva to your throut.
