DEFINITION OF TOPIC
- What the writing and story is about.
- It is like the main idea.
- It is just the facts.
- You can not debate it.
- It is the "what" in the story.
DEFINITION OF THEME
- The theme is the author's point of view about a topic.
- It's the "so what".
- It is the lesson of the story.
- It is the deeper or underlying meaning of a story.
- Subjective

Topic: Four people overcame a serious problem in their life.
Theme: You can overcome everything if you try your best.
The story of Malala Yousafzai
Topic: Malala doesn't give up on trying to get equal rights.
Theme: The author's message is that don't give up on what you believe in.
Amputee Cheerleader
Topic: Patien has excepted herself for who she is.
Theme: The author's message is that even though you have a disability you can get what you want.
Karate Kid
Topic: BULLY
Theme: The author's message is that even though you get bully you can always face it.
Land before time
Topic: Three dinosaurs are looking for food and water.
Theme: Some things you can see with your eyes and other stuff with your heart.
