ACETYLENE TORCH PROCEDURE

TORCH OUTFIT

  • Acetylene tank
  • Oxygen tank
  • Gas hoses
  • Torch
  • Gauges

CLOTHING/PROTECTION

  • Shade 10 goggles/glasses
  • Flame retardant gloves
  • Boots
  • Flame retardant jacket
  • Pants

FACE AND BODY PROTECTION

  • Shaded goggles, safety glasses, and welding helmets protect your eyes
  • Flame retardant jackets and gloves keep sparks and uv lights away from your skin

LEGS AND FEET PROTECTION

STEP ONE OF TORCH SET UP

  • Crack valves of acetylene and oxygen tanks
  • Check pressure of the tanks

STEP TWO

  • Put the gages on the tanks
  • Make sure they are tightened
  • Point nozzles in safe defection

STEP THREE

  • Attach red(left handed thread)hose to acetylene
  • Attach green(right handed thread) hose to oxygen

STEP FOUR

  • Attach green hose to oxygen port on torch
  • Attach red hose to acetylene port on torch
  • Tighten threads so there's no gas leaks

STEP FIVE

  • Set oxygen tank fully open
  • The oxygen gauge going to the torch can't go past 200psi
  • Set acetylene tank a quarter turn open
  • The acetylene gauge going to the torch can't higher than 15 psi
  • Check all connections for leaks bye ear, hand, or soap

STEP SIX

  • Turn oxygen pressure nozzle on torch open all the way
  • Turn acetylene pressure nozzle on torch a quarter turn
  • Turn front nozzle until there are three blue cones at the end of the torch
  • Make sure the cones are about a quarter inch long

STEP ONE TO SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE

  • Turn nozzles on torch off

  • Turn tanks off
  • Open nozzles on torch and gauges to drain the hoses
  • Make sure the gauges have 0psi
  • Shut all nozzles and gauges

STEP THREE OF SHUT DOWN

  • Take torch off of the hoses

STEP FOUR OF SHUT DOWN

  • Take hoses off of gauges

STEP FIVE OF SHUT DOWN

  • Take gauges off tanks

STEP SIX OF SHUT DOWN

  • Put caps back on tanks

OXYGEN/ACETYLENE TANK SECURITY

  • Make sure the oxygen/acetylene tanks are securely placed
  • They need to be tied or chained to a safe place
  • They also need to be secure while cutting
