TPACK

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Framework

Untitled Slide

  • " The TPACK framework describes the kinds of knowledge that teachers need in order to teach with technology, and the complex ways in which these bodies of knowledge interact with one another " (Koehler; Mishra; Akcaoglu & Rosenberg, 2013)

Technology isn't taught in an isolation.

It's a design that uses technology for specific content and context.

A balance in existing pedagogical and content domains

The Essentials

  • Technology fluctuates and must be kept up to date.
  • Mastery of content knowledge.
  • Skills needed to organize and teach to all students.
  • PCK means instructing with different methods for the content.
  • TCK is technology that represents information in new ways.
  • TPK uses the most apporpriate tool for the specific pedological approach.

Understanding the content, context and pedagogy leads to technology relevance.

TPACK

  • The teacher is the designer.
  • "These decisions shift with permutations of technology, pedagogy, subject-matter and classroom context" (Koehler ; Mishra ; Akcaoglu & Rosenberg, 2013)

Lessons include a variety of activities that

engage and enhance the students' experience.

Learning Technology by Design Process
"Students design an educational technology artifact (e.g., an
online course, movie, and redesigned website) that develops
in-step with the student’s progress through coursework or
professional development. "

Use curriculum-specific, technology enhanced

learning activities are the building block for instructional planning.

Summary

  • The TPACK model focuses on educators planning lessons based on pedagogical decisions, which includes appropriate activities with technology to meet content learning goals.

Teachers can revamp current lessons based on the

students interests and needs. Focusing on content goals, activities & tools

Try it Out!

  • The best way for teachers to know which technology tools are beneficial for their students is for them to research and use them in their teaching.
  • Presenting information and creating test and quizzes with new tools or the web can assist students in learning content goals and offer a variety of learning methods.
