SETTING
It is in modern time
Up in the northern area
If it didn't happen in modern time they wouldn't have nice clothes and guns
If it didn't happen in the northern area it wouldn't be snowing which is a big part in the book

CHARACTERS
The major characters are John and the deer, the minor characters are grandma, grandpa, and Emil.
He and his grandpa and grandma live out in the woods on a farm and go hunting every year.
Emil is Johns best friend in school, john lives with his grandpa because his parents died.
The protagonist is john, the antagonist would have to be nature.
He struggles to stay warm in the cold woods.

CONFLICT
The conflict in the story would have to be when John goes out into the woods to kill the deer.
He gets really cold and takes him along time to find her but decides not to kill her.
He takes along time trying to touch her so his grandpa can live.
The conflict is an external conflict because it shows the literary character and nature drive the action of the plot
Also person against nature

PLOT
The exposition is when John finds out his grandpa might die, and has to go hunting alone.
The rising action is when he goes hunting and finds a female deer and tracks her so John can make meat.
The climax is when he finds her and he aims the gun at her and decided not to shoot her and try to touch her.
