THE TRIBES MOVED

  • Andrew Jackson moved five tribes out of The Louisiana Territory to Oklahoma
  • Choctaws, Seminoles, Creek, Chickasaw, Cherokee.

BEFORE THE WALK

  • The soldiers gave every tribe a ethnic cleaning
  • They gave the indians very little supplies for the long trip
  • The weather conditions were cold with snow in the heart of winter

DEATHS

  • About 16,000 Indians died on the horrible trip
  • Ones that did survive, had nothing, or were hurt or sick.
  • This was a miserable experience

AFTERMATH

  • The indian tribes did not know how to farm in the new land
  • They had to rebuild an entire village again
  • They then would have to continue to move West when U.S. got bigger and richer

ANDREW JACKSON

  • Jackson would sell the land to gamblers who gambled for the land
