RICHARD TREVITHICK AND ANDREW VIVIAN

INVENTED THE TRAIN IN 1802, AND BOTH SHARE THE PATENT.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PATENT FOR THE TRAIN

WHICH WAS GIVEN TO RICHARD IN 1804

TRAINS WERE ORIGINALLY USED FOR...

  • Enhanced transportation
  • Carrying freights or people long distances.
  • Carrying heavy loads
  • Going faster than horse carriages and cars.

IN 1825 GEORGE STEPHENSON BUILDS HIS FAMOUS LOCOMOTION NO.1

CAPABLE OF PULLING 90 TONS OF COAL AT 15 MILES PER HOUR

TRAINS CAN BE POWERED BY A VARIETY OF SOURCES

INCLUDING ELECTRIC AND DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES

THE TRAIN STARTED USING DIESEL

AND ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES IN THE LATE 1930S

LUXURY TRAINS WERE CREATED IN 1864 AND ARE SUPPOSED TO
OFFER A VERY COMFORTABLE RIDE AND EVOKE AN ASSOCIATION WITH HISTORY AND HERITAGE. OPERATING IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, THEY ARE A PREMIUM TRAVEL OPTION.

Trains have changed America by making transportation for goods much quicker and cheaper. Trains also sped up the production of goods. People and goods could get to other cities in hours rather than days.

  • Making transportation for goods much quicker and cheaper

HOW HAVE TRAINS NEGATIVELY IMPACTED SOCIETY?

  • By spreading pollution and waste.
  • They cause negative health effects.

TRAINS NOW ARE USED FOR

  • Carrying people or freights certain distances faster
  • Carrying heavy loads
  • Carrying people or freights longer distances

German inventor Hermann Kemper patented the system

THAT USED MAGNETIC LEVITATION (MAGLEV) IN 1937

IN THE 1960S THE U.S MADE THE TRANSITION

FROM STEAM TO DIESEL AND ELECTRIC TRAINS

THE FIRST BULLET TRAINS WERE INVENTED IN

1964 BY JAPAN IN TIME FOR THE OLYMPICS.

THE WORLDS NEWEST TRAIN IS THE

MAGLEV TRAIN WHICH WAS CREATED IN 2002

Maglev is a system of train transportation that uses two sets of magnets, one set to repel and push the train up off the track, then another set to move the floating train ahead at great speed taking advantage of the lack of friction.
