TRAVEL:

THROUGH THE URINARY SYSTEM

RED BLOOD CELLS

  • Blood begins its journey in the Heart.
  • From the heart blood travels to the aorta.

RED BLOOD CELLS

  • After the aorta, blood travels through the renal artery.
  • From here the blood travels into the kidney.

RED BLOOD CELLS

  • While in the kidney blood is filtered.
  • Waste substances are filtered out of the blood.

RED BLOOD CELLS

  • After the blood is filtered it travels to the renal vein.

REDD BLOOD CELLS

  • Blood passes through the renal vein and back to the heart.

WATER

WATER

  • Again like blood, water travels through the renal artery.

WATER

  • In the kidneys water is filtered from the blood.
  • Most of the water is filtered out in the ureter.

WATER

  • Water is sent to the bladder from the ureter.
  • Water is stored in the bladder.

WATER

  • Water then exits the body through the urethra.

POTASSIUM

  • Potassium travels from the heart into the aorta.

POTASSIUM

  • Potassium travels with the blood through the renal artery.

POTASSIUM

  • Some potassium is collected in the collecting duct.
  • It is then sent back to the heart.
  • Some other potassium is sent to the bladder.

POTASSIUM

  • Some potassium is redistributed through the body.
  • Other potassium is stored in the bladder.

POTASSIUM

  • The potassium stored is then sent out of the body.
