background info...

  • paths that goods took formed a triangle
  • 1500's-1800's
  • system of imports & exports between countries

England, Africa, West Indies, & the colonies

metals, cloth, guns, spirits, rum, ivory, molasses, lumber, and SLAVES

the whole economy relied on the trade

REASON-everyone wanted/needed something that the other had

every country has different characteristics, needs, and specialties

When trade takes place...both economies benefit.

the most important trade "items" were slaves

they were imported from Africa

They traveled the Middle Passage which was extremely brutal.

The journey often resulted in physical, emotional, and psychological scars.

Slave labor was essential to the well-being of America

Slaves produced almost everything that was to be exported from the colonies

the only issue with triangular trade was......

The trade wasn't predictable which made life uncertain.
