WHAT IS A RAINFOREST

  • The rainforest is the Earth's oldest ecosystem
  • They are very dense,hot forest- called "rain" forests because it rains at an average of 120 days per year
  • The rainforest covers only 6% of the Earth's surface but contains more than one half of the world's plants& animals

INHABITANTS

  • 30 million species of plants&animals live in the rainforest
  • 1/2 of the world's animals and 2/3 of the world's plants live in the rainforest
  • There are 750 species of trees, 1500 species of flowers , and 125 species of mammals

  • Because rain forests are found near the equator, the temperature stays hot all year
