Where did the name tsunami come from?

The name tsunami originated from Japan. Tsu meaning harbor and nami meaning wave. A tsunami can also be named as a harbor wave.

The largest tsunami in height?
The largest tsunami in height was a whopping 1720 feet (524.26 m). It was recorded on July 9, 1958 on Lituya Bay, Alaska. This gigantic mega tsunami caused major destruction.

Tsunamis are caused by a volcanic eruption, a sub-marine rockslide, or a asteroid/meteoroid crashing into the water from space but this rarely happens. Earthquakes can also cause tsunamis.
