  • it is the movement of the water on the surface as the result of an underwater seismic event.
  • it can also be a series of waves, not just a big one.

  • unusual receding of the shorline
  • abnormally large wave
  • loud ocean roar (something similar to a train or an airplane)

before a tsunami

  • watch out for warning signs
  • run uphill you felt an earthquake
  • observe the animals if they will head inland, uphill or away from the shore
  • observe the water on the shoreline moving back further out into the sea.

during a tsunami

  • if you weren't able to run uphil, find higher and stable ground for safety, but if not, climb something.
  • evacuate if possible

after a tsunami

  • wait for some time to make sure the waves have stopped
  • do not go back to lower ground immediately since the time between these waves cannot be easily determined
  • do not go near the shore even after the end of a series.

  • check your surroundings if you are near a mountain, on low ground or on a mountain side where the soil creeps.
  • shut off utilities to prevent pipe systems from breaking and leaking

during the Landslide

  • stay away from the area where the event will take place
  • avoid the flow by going to the direction adjacent to the path of the slide
  • if you get caught, curl into a ball and protect your head

after the disaster

  • stay away from where the landslide happened
  • check for injured and trapped people
  • watch out for debris
  • listen to the radio
