WHAT ARE TSUNAMIS? WHERE CAN A TSUNAMI BE SEEN?

  • Tsunamis can be caused when the oceanic plate falls under the contintental plate.
  • The continental plate falls under the oceanic plate because the oceanic plate is heavier.
  • 80% of Tsunamis can be caused in the Pacific Ocean " Ring of Fire".
  • Tsunami is a combination of two Japanese words, "tsu" meaning harbor and "nami" meaning wave.
  • A tsunami is a "harbor wave"

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES A TSUNAMI?

  • A tsunami can be caused by small waves called wave trains.
  • A tsunami can be caused by the abrupt eruption underwater.
  • They also cause from hurricanes.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF A TSUNAMI?

  • A tsunami can devestate homes and buildings.
  • A tsunami causes many losses of lives due to drowning and being trapped in a building.
  • Tsunamis can also cost the government lots of money because of the damages in a city.

HOW DO SCIENTIST MEASURE TSUNAMIS?

  • Scientist measure tsunamis by the seismic activity underwater.
  • They also measure them with tools such as the "tsunamograph."

WHERE AROUND THE WORLD DO TSUNAMIS OCCUR AND WHY?

  • Tsunamis happen in subduction zones.
  • Tsunami can occur in the Pacific Ocean.
  • This disaster happens in Japan becuase it occurs most there.
  • Since Australia is near the Pacific Ocean taunamis can happen.
