TUBERCULOSIS

THE DISEASE THAT HAS CREATED HAVIC SINCE THE 180O'S AND IS STILL HERE

WHAT IS IT

  • TB is a virus that is 2-4 nanometers long and .02-.05 nanometers wide
  • They are little rod shaped viruses

BASIC INFO

  • TB is spread by breathing in the air of somebody that carries the virus
  • A fever heats the cells to a temperature that it cannot stand
  • Abnormalities on chest X-Rays

DEMOGRAPHICS

  • Most people are between the ages of 25 and 40.
  • Males are effected more then females
  • Third of the worlds population had TB
  • TB is the leading killer of people with HIV

HISTORY!

  • In 1980 they tried to eradicate it
  • In 1993 tb got itself back on the watch list for the most dangerous diseases in the US
  • 3rd most deadly disease to hit North America

HISTORY!

  • First place that could hold enough people to treat
  • And actually cause a difference is the Waverley Hills Sanatorium
  • 1918- 1 in 3 people that got tb died in 2 years

FIGHTING THE DISEASE

  • It's almost impossible to defend against the killing disease
  • Your immune system would recognize the virus to late to stop it
  • Doctors prescribe 4 types of antibiotics to take
  • The medicine won't wipe out the disease but it will contain the disease

LEUKOCYTSIS

  • Neutrophilia Lymphocytosis Monocytosis Eosinophilia Basophilia
  • The T cells found in different ones effect it in different ways
  • Couldn't find one that treated it

TO FIND TB THEY TAKE XRAYS

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ITS NOT TREATED AND THE PATIENT DIES

CAUSE YOU KNOW IF YOU DIE, YOU DIE. IF YOU DONT.....
