  • 99th fighter squadron of the Tuskegee Airman flew more than 15,000 missions and lost 66 men

They played a vital role in the double war. The win over the Axis Powers and racism at home.
By 1941, fewer than 4,000 African Americans were serving. By 1945 more than 1.2 million were serving.
